Last year, before the release of his debut album, Sam Smith publicly came out as gay. Coming out can be make or break, especially for a well-known celebrity. Yesterday, Smith shared an Instagram account dedicated to being anti-Sam Smith, specifically the fact that he is gay. The account (creatively named ‘GAYSAMSMITH’) didn’t have any pictures yet, but a homophobic biography had been written. It was removed soon afterwards. On Twitter, Smith added: “This genuinely doesn’t offend me, coz I’m way too tick skinned when it comes to this kind of shit. BUT I just wanted to share this with everyone, so you can see how homophobia is still SO PRESENT in our society“. This is an important message, and one which I am glad that Smith brought to light.
