Many are under the impression that nothing bad should be said about those who have recently passed away; a person’s good aspects are highlighted and condolences are heartfelt and positive. Mary Weiland, Scott Weiland‘s ex-wife deviants from this trend.
On December 3, Scott died in his sleep whilst on tour but, in an essay, Mary explained how his lifestyle affected their family. “[T]hey lost their father years ago. What they truly lost on December 3rd was hope.” In the concluding paragraph, Mary puts: “Let’s choose to make this the first time we don’t glorify this tragedy with talk of rock and roll and the demons that, by the way, don’t have to come with it.” A lack of parental responsibility is the main focus, something which Mary urges other parents to commit to. At no point is Scott’s talent dismissed or ignored.
