In the wake of of Matt Tyrnauer‘s documentary, Scotty and the Secret History of Hollywood, a biopic based on the life of subject Scotty Bowers is now in development at Fox Searchlight. Tyrnauer and his producing partner Corey Reeser are producing the biopic as well, although no writer or director has yet been hired.
The documentary follows Bowers, “a World War II Marine combat veteran who fought at the Battle of Iwo Jima and became a legendary bisexual male hustler and all-purpose date-arranger for Hollywood movie stars from the 1940s until the beginning of the AIDS epidemic in the 1980s”.
Bowers came to the attention of Hollywood back in 2012 with his tell-all biography, Full Service: My Adventures in Hollywood and the Secret Sex Lives of the Stars, which contained extensive claims about the sex lives of many Hollywood stars across four decades. The information had not been discussed prior to publication, but Bowers decided to reveal all on the page since most of the people involved were dead.
Bowers himself is now 95, and will now be the central focus of a biopic that is likely to present a side of tinseltown that was previously spoken about only in whispers. The documentary, Scotty and the Secret History of Hollywood, was released in the U.S. in late July but only in ten theatres. It’s possible as interest in Bowers grows, it will become more widely available.
