Shang-Chi And The Legend Of The Ten Rings star Simu Liu has signed on to join Sam Worthington, Jordana Brewster, Robbie Amell and Alicia Sanz in the thriller Hello Stranger.
The film follows a woman named Faye who attempts to replace her newly deceased husband Evan with an android simulant – SIM. Although SIM Evan appears like human Evan in every way, Faye does not feel the same love for SIM Evan as it does for her.
SIM Evan tries to win Faye’s heart while at the same time being on-the-run from a government agent chasing down SIMs who have become ‘conscious’ and could potentially be a threat to humankind.
April Mullen (Wander) is directing from a script by Ryan Christopher Churchill. Tim Doiron and James van der Woerd are producing in association with their production company Wango Films. Myriad Pictures will handle international sales.
Prior to Shang-Chi, Liu gained prominence thanks to his role in the CBC/Netflix sitcom Kim’s Convenience, which ran for five seasons.
He’s currently involved in a bunch of projects, including Arthur The King with Mark Wahlberg, romance One True Loves, Greta Gerwig‘s Barbie, and of course the Shang-Chi sequel.
Myriad Pictures’ President and CEO Kirk D’Amico said in a statement: “We are all tremendously excited that Simu Liu has joined the cast of Hello Stranger. We think that Simu will absolutely do a great job with this pivotal role for April and the production.”
Hello Stranger has already begun filming in Canada.
