Shawn Mendes, Lizzo, Halsey Participate In Mental Health Awareness Radio Special | Music News

This Sunday, Shawn Mendes, Lizzo, Halsey, Tegan and Sara, Disturbed and many other artists have signed up on for a radio special called I’m Listening to raise awareness about mental health.

Musicians, sports stars, mental health professionals and first responders will be taking part on this two-hour show, which will air on September 8 at 7 a.m. local time on 235 Entercom radio stations before the National Suicide Prevention Week starts.

Artists like Lizzo have been very opened about sharing her mental health issues on social media, posting things like “I’m depressed and there’s no one I can talk to because there’s nothing anyone can do about it. Life hurts.”

The following day, she added that “I learned in the last 24hrs that being emotionally honest can save your life. Reaching out may be hard but as soon as I did it, I was immediately covered in love. I used to think of sadness as a constant with fleeting moments of joy in between… but it’s a wave”.

Shawn Mendes also has been sharing his struggles with anxiety and insecurities during several interviews and on social media and he even wrote a song about it titled “In My Blood”.

The radio special will be hosted by KISW in Seattle’s BJ Shea alongside CEO of NowMattersNow.org, Dr. Ursula Whiteside and listeners will be able to participate with live call-in and through an interactive website.
