Shia LaBeouf has signed on to star in Mace, an action-thriller from director Jon Amiel. David Chisholm has written the script, and LaBeouf will be joined in the cast by Trevor Jackson (Grown-ish). Myriad Pictures are currently shopping the project at the Cannes Film Festival.
Mace is the harrowing story of two very different types of cops; veteran officer Mace, dangerous and corrupt, and Virgil Woods, a young rookie who believes that he can change the system that fosters cops like Mace from within.
Inspired by the ongoing racial injustice in America, Woods risks everything he believes to stop Mace from destroying the city when Mace unleashes a gang war to cover up his crimes. Everyone around Mace is in danger as Mace plays his game and tries to conceal his tracks, no matter the cost.
Myriad Pictures’ Kirk D’Amico said in a statement: “We are delighted that Shia LaBeouf will head up the cast for this film which explores the underbelly of a police precinct in contemporary New Jersey. We think that with Jon Amiel at the helm and Shia in the title role that the result will be extraordinary and exciting.”
Amiel is an English director who has helmed films such as 1995 thriller Copycat, 2003 blockbuster The Core, and 1997 Bill Murray comedy The Man Who Knew Too Little. He also directed all six episodes of acclaimed British serial The Singing Detective in 1986.
LaBeouf’s last film role was in 2020’s Pieces of a Woman. He’s currently filming Francis Ford Coppola‘s epic sci-fi drama Megalopolis. Production on Mace is expected to begin later this year in New Jersey.
