Knoxville, Tennessee, based singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Shayla McDaniel has released a brand new song that is entitled “Flavor”. Shayla has laid some smooth vocals over dynamic alternative pop melodies.
This song is about being the change you want to see in the world. Each verse creates a new section and there is a soaring chorus, the single is challenging the listeners to ask themselves some hard questions, the ones we are usually avoiding.
About the inspiration behind her song “Flavor”, the artist Shayla McDaniel shared: “Am I ok with who I am and who I’m becoming?’ is the main theme of the song. For such a deep theme, if I say so myself, this song actually stemmed from a pretty basic moment. I usually only drink water, but I keep a few pops in the fridge. I thought myself one evening, ‘I’m craving some flavor, some spiciness.’ I cracked open a cold Pepsi, and man, it hit so hard“.
She like this line so much and she decided to turn it into a song. “It started off simple, just me and my acoustic guitar, singing about soda. I wanted to make the chords and rhythms kind of monotonous because I started singing about craving flavor and needing spiciness, then the song grew from there.”
Singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist has already performed at Rhythm N’Blooms Music Festival alongside other artists such as Young The Giant and Dave Barnes, Waynestock Festival, Women in Jazz Jam Festival and live on-air at several radio stations.
In 2016, her song “I’ll Leave the Light On” has been chosen as one of the top 16 songs from Knoxville artists, for the following year she was often nominated and voted for the Knoxville Awards. She will continue to play lively shows with her band but also some intimate solo performances fro growing local and regional audiences.
