St. Bennet’s is an all-male Norwegian band, and they’ve just dropped (October 4) their latest song titled “Captain”. This alternative folk/rock band exploring all range of the two styles, offer us a real journey through their EP The Devil Awaits, which is divided into three songs telling a real story, with “Captain” offering the conclusion.
John, a religious farmer figured out the killing of his wife and child because of an ongoing civil war. He wants revenge and teams with his Captain while accepting the devil as his savior, as revealed on the EP’s first track titled “Oh Sweet devil”.
Then he realized his fury made him mad. He’s caught behind enemy lines, and he’s towards inevitable death on the second track named “Avery”.
Both tracks bring us to the last and third song. The one I recommended. The story ends with John trying to save others from death, so he asks the Captain to stop this slaughter of sacrifice, but then he kills the Captain. He’s now a killer, and to the many, he’s a traitor, but to a few he’s a saint. This thrilling track is tilled “Captain”, and what a discovery!
Everything is perfectly measured for a perfect harmony. Electric guitars add intensity and feel the desperation of this man. The drum rhythm add a touch of suspense which is completed by the choruses, while the lyrics are a journey. It’s a real story that we play in this group.
The voice of the singer makes the emotion pass. It perfectly adjusts to the different rhythm of production. As the music continues, We feel the desperation of this man come up. We see the characters and the atmosphere. We feel the characters and their stories. It’s a real teamwork for a perfect symbiosis. It’s a real musical that appears in our head. It’s a trip through a musical experience.
