Stockholm-based artist and producer, JÁNA, has released her new single “I Do” via Kartel Music Group on March 24. The track was produced and written by JÁNA and Swedish producer FAMILY TIME, known for their work with Lily Allen, Oscar Scheller, Ady Suleiman, and JONES.
“I Do” combines alt-pop with R&B-laced acoustic guitars, soaring melodies, and a heavy synth bass crescendo. JÁNA’s soothing vocals add to the overall beauty of the track. It is the second single to be taken from her debut album, set to release later this year.
JÁNA, real name Johanna Andrén, first gained recognition for her work with Little Dragon on her debut solo EP, Flowerworks. Her innovative use of live instruments and electronic R&B/alt-pop hybrid caught the attention of publications like The Fader, COLORS, The Line Of Best Fit, and Lyrical Lemonade.
The new release, “I Do” is a reflection on one of JÁNA’s past relationships, exploring the complexities of love and hate.
As JÁNA puts it, “I want my music to be so honest that it feels scary to me. ‘I Do’ is about my feelings for a person I used to date. I thought it felt interesting to make a song that felt very intimate but with such harsh lyrics.
It’s a little story about hate and love and how these don’t need to oppose each other. The words ‘I Do’ are often associated with love, for example wedding vows, so it felt interesting to have the song connect with love in that way too“.
The release of “I Do” follows JÁNA’s 2020 Grammy-nominated single, “Green”, a jazz-infused slice of R&B with Nigerian-American duo VanJess. With the new single, JÁNA continues to showcase her talent and ability to seamlessly blend different genres to create a unique sound.
Listen to JÁNA’s new release “I Do” and enjoy the lush vocals and captivating melodies that showcase her unique talent.
