Britain’s biggest TV stars were reunited together at London’s Royal Festival Hall for the BAFTA TV Awards 2019 on Sunday, with famous faces gracing the red carpet yesterday, including Ant McPartlin and Dec Donnelly who joined the event to see which shows and stars would take home a gong.
After the red carpet proceedings, the stars of British TV were hosted in the beautiful theatre, and as was expected from its numerous nomination, Killing Eve, written by Phoebe Waller-Bridge, picked up three awards, two in the acting categories for Fiona Shaw as supporting actress and Jodie Comer as leading actress, and best drama series.
Another big winner was Benedict Cumberbatch, who won best actor for his drama Patrick Melrose, which was also named best mini-series. The Sherlock star, who received his first of seven previous Bafta nominations in 2005 but hasn’t won until now, told the audience: “Oh gosh, I think I’m going to fall over, I’m very used to being a bridesmaid not the bride”.
