There is movement on the much-anticipated sequel to 2014’s box office smash and critically acclaimed The Lego Movie. First, Tiffany Haddish, who is picking up roles left and right thanks to her breakout role in last year’s Girls Trip, has signed on to voice a character in the film.
Her exact role is unknown at this time, but it is understood that the plot of the sequel will take place directly after the events of the first film. Also, the primary cast members of The Lego Movie will each be reprising their roles for the sequel.
As for the title, keeping in line with the franchise’s meta humour and knowing winks to its place in Hollywood, the sequel has simply been titled The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part. The announcement was made on Twitter:

Matt Fogel has pieced together a script from an original draft written by Phil Lord and Chris Miller, who directed the first film. Mike Mitchell (Trolls) is set to helm the sequel, though Lord and Miller are still producing.
Haddish is a great addition to the cast and should add to what was already an exceptionally fun ensemble. She’s also attached to a number of other upcoming projects such as the basketball comedy Uncle Drew, a reunion with Girls Trip director Malcolm D. Lee in Night School alongside Kevin Hart, and also Tyler Perry‘s The List, to name a few.
But The Lego Movie 2: The Second One might hit cinemas first, since it’s scheduled to arrive February 2019, with the exact release date to be set soon.
