For its season nine finale, AMC show The Walking Dead have decided to collaborate with Puma to create a special edition pair of sneakers. Taking the GV Special silhouette, the collaboration has been designed by sneaker customiser Alexander-John and is inspired by the Whisperers from The Walking Dead‘s current season.
The shoe has a white base with yellow detailing and a perforated toe, along with black laces and a black tongue. But the distinctive feature of the collection is the hand-printed, pre-distressed aesthetic. You can also see the Whisperers’ references with Alpha’s face appearing on the inside of the collaboration’s packaging. Other details include the all-over printed footbed and a cross motif on the sneaker’s heel.
The Whisperers, whom the collection is inspired, is a group of renegades who believe the world belongs to the dead, never speaking above a whisper and wearing Walker’s faces as masks, and Alpha is one of the key Whisperers on the show. Also the pre-distressing represents the struggling nature of the show’s characters. Everything is thought as a reference and connection with the show, nothing is left to chance.
“[They] play a very important role in how I brought this shoe to life. I love the simplicity of the concept and how the Whisperers hide in plain sight,” explained the customiser referring to the Whisperers. The collaboration with PUMA will be available exclusively at Footlocker on March 25. In the meantime take a look at the collection’s details here below.
