31-year old singer The Weeknd is due to make an appearance at this year’s Billboard Music Awards on May 23. He is also at the top of this year’s nominees list in 16 categories, with his latest album, After Hours birthing three number one hit songs on the Billboard Hot 100 including the single “Blinding Lights”, which also reached the top of multiple streaming charts.
Overall, The Weeknd has 34 top 40 tracks, six #1 singles and four #1 albums on the Billboard chart, including After Hours, which is the first album with three Billboard Hot 100 #1 since 2018, and also made the singer only the second artist in history to have three number one singles on the Billboard Hot 100 in three different years from the same album.
The 2021 Billboard Music Awards will be hosted by Nick Jonas, broadcasting live from the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, with Pink set to receive the Billboard Icon Award and also perform on the show.
Winners on the night will be based on key fan interactions with music, audio and video streaming, album and digital song sales, radio presence and social engagement, which will be tracked by Billboard and its data partners, MRC Data and Next Big Sound.
The fan-voted categories of the awards are ‘Top Social Artist’ and ‘Top Collaboration’, for which voting is open from May 10 at 9am to May 21 at 11:59pm on Twitter and billboard.com/bbmasvote.
