Yes you heard that right (well read that right), Tilda Swinton has confirmed that she will be starring in the mystical Marvel film Doctor Strange. “We’re so far in talks we’re not talking anymore… It’s done!“, she recently stated. It’s done, I don’t think you could possibly get any more of a confirmation than that.
So what is Tilda’s role you may ask. She’s only going to be playing The Ancient One. Who’s The Ancient One? Not to over hype her, but in the comics, she is the healer of Himalayas, who is essentially responsible for the sorcerer supreme Steven Strange’s (played by Benedict Cumberbatch, yes, the Sherlock acting, dragon voicing juggernaut) existence. She is the one who teaches him how to access his psychic and magical powers, the same magical powers that he then goes on to use to take on bad guys.
“The idea of playing The Ancient One is really just too tickling… I can’t say no to that! I just really liked the premise of this and the idea of playing this character. I’m a Marvel fan and I think this particular world that Doctor Strange goes into is really, really, really exciting. I’m really interested as both an actor and a fan to see what’s done in this particular world. It’s all about creativity. It’s not about everything exploding at the end. It’s about something very different“, Swinton joked about the role.
So how could this news possibly get any better. well Tilda has also confirmed that she has been signed up to star in further Marvel films. YES. but she doesn’t know exactly which ones. NO. “It’s like holding onto the tail of a galloping horse at this point“.
