Tom The Lion has recently unveiled his newest musical offering with the release of “Warning Shot“. This track is part of his upcoming EP titled Former Lives, scheduled to debut on October 4th. Known for his introspective and soul-stirring compositions, Tom The Lion continues to captivate listeners with his profound exploration of life’s complexities.
“Warning Shot” is a poignant exploration of the search for life’s purpose, capturing the essence of unexpected moments of clarity and the often misguided paths we take. Tom The Lion describes the song as a gentle reflection on the destructive ways we navigate our inner lives.
Initially recorded in his mother’s garage during lockdown, the track retains a unique, naive lilt that couldn’t be replicated in later recordings, adding a layer of authenticity and charm.
The single was produced by Luke Potashnik, known for his work with Gabrielle Aplin, Katie Melua, and Alberta Cross, at the renowned Wool Hall in Frome, Somerset. This legendary studio has hosted iconic artists such as The Smiths, Joni Mitchell, and Van Morrison, adding to the track’s distinguished production background.
Based in London, Tom The Lion is known for crafting music that is cinematic, soulful, and quietly majestic, blending candid storytelling with precise musical craftsmanship. Drawing inspiration from artists like Adrianne Lenker, Villagers, and Christine and the Queens, his work combines candid lyricism, precise composition, and a touch of pop sensibility.
His musical journey began with the release of “The Adventures Of Tom The Lion” in 2013, followed by the critically acclaimed album Sleep. Despite early success and support from BBC Radio’s Huw Stephens and Rob Da Bank, Tom faced disillusionment with the music industry’s demands. This led him to take a step back and rediscover his artistic voice, culminating in the 2018 album Round Trip.
As 2024 unfolds, Tom The Lion is preparing to share more new music and announce live appearances. His forthcoming EP, Former Lives, will be accompanied by a short film directed by Filippo Locatelli. The film, which tells a coming-of-age story of friendship and exploration, serves as a perfect visual complement to the EP’s timeless narrative.
