After the relative disappointment of True Detective season two, the season three details are making us all salivate at the mouth once again. Earlier this year, Academy Award winning actor Mahershala Ali was cast, and he’s now been joined by Carmen Ejogo (Selma, Alien: Covenant).
She will play Amelia Reardon, an Arkansas schoolteacher with a connection to two children who went missing in the 1980s. The season will be set in Northwest Arkansas and will follow a police detective, telling “the story of a macabre crime in the heart of the Ozarks, and a mystery that deepens over decades and plays out in three separate time periods”.
Ejogo is a great addition to the cast. She’s currently spearheading season two of The Girlfriend Experience and will soon be seen opposite Denzel Washington in Roman J. Israel, Esq.
The upcoming season sounds not dissimilar to the immensely popular first season of True Detective, which saw Nic Pizzolatto serve as showrunner with Cary Fukunaga directing the whole season. Pizzolatto returns as writer, showrunner and director for the third season, but this time is joined by Jeremy Saulnier (Green Room), who will also take on directing duties.
David Milch (Deadwood) is also a part of the show, having been consulted on the story. So, whether behind the camera or in front of it, there’s plenty to be intrigued about for True Detective season three. We’ve been burned before with season two (which was still better than plenty of other shows on TV), but it’s hard not to begin feeling excited about what could be in store in season three.
