On the eve of her 75th birthday, singer and actress Cher took to Twitter to announce her own biopic, produced by the producers of Mamma Mia! in a tweet.
The project will be produced by Universal with Judy Craymer and Gary Goetzman at the helm. A project that Universal is taking seriously in light of the two producers’ previous exploits.
The screenplay will be written by Eric Roth, the Oscar-winning screenwriter of Killers Of The Flower Moon for Martin Scorsese and A Star Is Born for Bradley Cooper, as well as Robert Zemeckis‘ famous Forrest Gump.
Nicknamed the ‘goddess of pop’, Cher began her career in the 1960s as a duo with her husband Sonny Bono. Their first hit, “I Got You Babe”, sold over a million copies and launched the career of what would become one of the most popular artists in history.
A multi-talented star, Cher has also made a name for herself on television with the Sonny and Cher Comedy Hour and in films such as The Witches of Eastwick, Ready To Wear and Moonlight.
No details have yet been released about the casting, with the biopic just entering pre-production, but with such a rich life, there’s no doubt that it will be full of twists and turns.
According to Deadline, although there are plenty of songs to illustrate his career, this biopic will not be a musical where the actors start singing in the middle of a scene, but a more classic Bohemian Rhapsody-like biopic where the music is present but not constantly in the foreground.
