We have known for a long time that the family adventure series The Mummy, which saw Brendan Fraser, Rachel Weisz and Oded Fehr take on multiple mummies, was due for a grittier reboot. The first trailer for the Tom Cruise instalment has arrived here and we can confirm that there is no CGI Rock to be found there…
The new movie, helmed by Alex Kurtzman, follows a group of soldiers, joined by Nick (Tom Cruise) and Jenny (Annabelle Wallis) who must accompany the transportation of a newly found mummy sarcophagus to its new home in London. As you may suspect, the ancient princess, played by Sofia Boutella, does not find this to her liking and as she wakes up she starts wrecking havoc.
The new footage makes it known that this is a Tom Cruise movie but it is Sofia Boutella, as the four-eyed mummy, who steals the scene. If you observe closely some of the writings on her face you might notice ‘Heh’, the name of the ancient god of eternity and immortality, which might be a key to her mystic revival, or not.
Look out for a cameo of Russel Crowe’s Jekyl, as The Mummy, much in the style of Kong: Skull Island, promises a crossover between monster universe.
The Mummy will hit UK theatres on Friday, June 9. For now, check out the new trailer below and let us know what your favourite bit is:
