The second trailer for James Marsh’s The Theory of Everything has been released and it already looks like this may be a true tear jerker. James Marsh is well known for directing such documentaries as Project Nim and Man On Wire and his ability to capture the true emotions of his subjects is something to be admired. So, how well will he fair in taking on such a famous and well loved true story?
For those of you who don’t know, we’re talking about the one and only Stephen Hawking and his story of love, science and overcoming physical disabilities. Adapted from Hawking’s wife’s memoir, Travelling to Infinity: My Life with Stephen, the narrative follows their relationship and how it developed from Hawking’s life at Cambridge to becoming the genius we know him as today.
Hawking is played by Eddie Redmayne and already it looks as if we’re going to get a sincere and committed performance from him. Starring opposite from him as his on screen wife is Felicity Jones, who takes on Jane’s character with a quiet confidence. If the trailer is anything to go by, I think Jones may be the scene stealer of this movie and it’s quite clear she’s emotionally committed to her character.
Already I’m excited to see a personal, human side to Stephen Hawking and the combination of these young, talented actors and a directer that is able to connect so personally with his cast is a match made in heaven. Do you agree? Check out the new trailer and see what you think.
