MGM has released the first trailer for the upcoming animated reboot of The Addams Family. This is an animated feature-length adaptation of the classic characters, who originally debuted as single-panel cartoons in The New Yorker in 1938. Since that time, they’ve been turned into a live-action TV series, a TV movie, and most recently a pair of live-action films in the 90s from director Barry Sonnenfeld.
The new animated feature is directed by Conrad Vernon (Shrek 2, Monsters vs. Aliens, Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted) and Greg Tiernan (Thomas & Friends, Day of the Diesels). The voice cast is led by Golden Globe winner Oscar Isaac (Star Wars: The Last Jedi, Annihilation) as Gomez Addams, with Academy Award winner Charlize Theron (Atomic Blonde, Mad Max: Fury Road) as Morticia Addams,
In addition, Chloë Grace Moretz (The Miseducation of Cameron Post, If I Stay) stars as Wednesday Addams, Finn Wolfhard (Stranger Things) as Pugsley Addams, Nick Kroll (Big Mouth, Sing) as Uncle Fester, Bette Midler (Hocus Pocus, Beaches) as Grandmama, Elsie Fisher (Eighth Grade) as Margaux, and Academy Award winner Allison Janney (I, Tonya) as the family’s arch nemesis Margaux Needler.
The official synopsis for The Addams Family reads: “Get ready to snap your fingers! The Addams Family is back on the big screen in the first animated comedy about the kookiest family on the block. Funny, outlandish, and completely iconic, the Addams Family redefines what it means to be a good neighbour.”
