Netflix has just shared the trailer of its new documentary, Amend: The Fight for America, hosted by Will Smith.
The series will take the form of a six-part, six-hour documentary, which was created by Robe Imbriano and Tom Yellin. Will Smith also serves as the executive producer alongside Larry Wilmore.
This Netflix project aims to introduce viewers to the history of the United States by looking at the Fourteenth Amendment of the Constitution. Established in 1868, the Fourteenth Amendment promised freedom and equal protection for all people as the most enduring mark of American democracy. The series will review the legal and social interpretation of the amendment since its inception.
The series will feature celebrities such as Mahershala Ali, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Samuel L. Jackson, Pedro Pascal and Yara Shahidi who will read the works of minds that were heavily involved in the Fourteenth Amendment such as Martin Luther King Jr.
Will smith commented on the series by saying: “I believe a deeper understanding of the 14th Amendment is a critical jumping off point.
Our hope with this series is to illuminate the beauty that is the promise of America and to share a message of connection and shared humanity so that we will be able to better understand and celebrate our different experiences as Americans and promote progress toward the true equality promised to all persons under the 14th amendment”.
Amend:The Fight for America will be launched on February 17 on Netflix. Watch the full trailer below:
