In an interview with IGN, star of The Following and the X-Men franchise Shawn Ashmore, revealed that he harbours the desire to play another superhero other than his hugely popular Iceman, if given the chance. “Marvel-wise, I love Nightcrawler and I love Ghost Rider and I don’t know if I’d ever get the chance to play those characters, but I’d love to see another take on Ghost Rider maybe. I love those books”.
With the two Nicholas Cage films proving less-than-successful, who knows if someday, we’ll get to see Ashmore swap ice for fire, but in the meantime, the actor seemed unsure about the prospect of a solo Iceman film. “What I always loved about the X-Men is that it wasn’t about solo characters. I think that the characters really come to life when you put them in the context of the school with Xavier, with the team – that’s what I always loved about the X-Men. So I’m not sure if that would ever happen. It would be exciting if it did, but there is something to be said about the team”.
With X-Men: Days of Future Past (2014) seemingly closing the chapter on the Mutants of yesteryear, it seems dubious that a solo film would ever get off the mat. But with next year’s X-Men: Apocalypse bringing back a few of our favourite mutants (Jean Grey, Storm, Cyclops and Nightcrawler) in their younger guise, it seems more than likely we’ll see Iceman again soon.
