BBC To Adapt ‘Les Miserables’ For TV With Team Behind ‘War And Peace’ | TV News
After War and Peace, dear God I can’t wait. The BBC is to make an adaptation of Les Miserables with the same team behind their adaptation of War and Peace. Producer, Harey Weinstein, and screenwriter, Andrew Davies, are confirmed to be already on board. Equally encouraging is the fact that the adaptation will be based on the novel rather than the musical.
Davies commented on the series:
“Les Misérables is a huge iconic title. Most of us are familiar with the musical version which only offers a fragmentary outline of its story. I am thrilled to have the opportunity of doing real justice to Victor Hugo at last by adapting his masterpiece in a six-hour version for the BBC, with the same team who made War and Peace”.
