Empire’s Jussie Smollett Confirmed For Period Drama ‘Underground’ | TV News
Jussie Smollett is teaming up with his sister Jurnee for WGN’s upcoming period drama Underground. Underground will focus on a group of slaves who escape from a Georgian plantation; on their journey they are assisted by a secret abolitionist couple who run a station on the Underground Railroad. Jussie will be playing a run-away slave who doesn’t trust anyone.
Joining the Smollett siblings is Christopher Meloni (Law & Order: SVU), Reed Diamond (Agents of Shield, Franklin & Bash), Jessica De Gouw (Arrow, Dracula) and Aldis Hodge (Leverage). This sounds right up my street, I do love a good period drama. I know a lot of people will moan abut this being another slave drama, but the Underground Railroad was a very important part of African-American history, so it will be interesting to see how it is portrayed.
