Guillermo del Toro

A film by Guillermo del Toro is always something to look forward to. Haunting and darkly enchanting storylines combined with his unmistakable Gothic visual style make films like Pan’s LabyrinthThe Devil’s Backbone and Crimson Peak ones that remain in the mind long after seeing them.

The chance to work with him is something that would be hard to pass up for any actor, but it has been reported that del Toro has already focused on who he wants for his next project. According to recent sources, del Toro is eyeing Octavia Spencer and Sally Hawkins to lead the cast of his new film, which remains a mystery to all but the Mexican maestro.

Spencer will be best known for her role as Minny Jackson in The Help, a role for which she was showered with awards, (including the coveted Best Supporting Actress Oscar) and will soon be starring in The Divergent Series: Allegiant.

Hawkins is an acclaimed English actress whose most recognisable role would be in Mike Leigh’s Happy-Go-Lucky but she has also worked with Woody Allen on two occasions. She is due to appear in a second instalment of the BBC’s Shakespearean series The Hollow Crown which shall focus on the Bard’s first historical tetralogy of plays: Henry VI: Parts 1-3 and Richard III.

Together they make a wonderful pairing that would make any film worth seeing. All that is known of del Toro’s new project is that it is a Cold War drama set against the backdrop of 1960s America.
