Halle Berry & Angelina Jolie To Star In ‘Maude v Maude’

Halle Berry and Angelina Jolie have both signed on to star in Maude v Maude, a project recently landed by Warner Bros. following an intense multi-studio bidding war. And no, it’s not a belated Kramer vs. Kramer sequel, but a globe trotting action thriller.

Roseanne Liang will direct from Scott Mosier‘s script. Berry and Jolie will also produce. Exact details about the film are being kept under wraps, but it’s being described as a “Bond vs. Bourne” type of film.

The package hit the market last week and wrapped over the weekend, with Warner Bros getting aggressive. Since taking over as co-studio heads, Michael De Luca and Pam Abdy have reportedly been pushing to get more movie star-centric packages into their future slate. Once this project became available, it was too hard to pass up.

De Luca and Abdy have always been aggressive in targeting projects they believe in. When the duo were in charge of MGM, they outbid other studios of big films like Ridley Scott‘s House of Gucci and Project Hail Mary with Ryan Gosling, which is currently in production. Those tactics have clearly followed them to Warner Bros.

Despite Berry and Jolie’s long careers, they’ve never worked together. But they’re both well versed in the action genre, with Jolie even starring in the similar Mr. & Mrs. Smith back in 2005. Maude v Maude should be a film that plays to their strengths.

Berry is currently filming Lionsgate film Never Let Go, while Jolie recently wrapped directing Without Blood and will next star in Maria, a biopic about opera singer Maria Callas. Liang’s most recent film was the unique war/action/horror hybrid Shadow In The Cloud, which starred Chloë Grace Moretz.
