Jenny Slate To Star In App Horror ‘Mindful’

Jenny Slate (Everything Everywhere All At Once, Venom) will lead the cast of Mindful, a horror movie about a possessed meditation app that begins to kill its followers. Perry Blackshear (They Look Like People) will direct from a script by Les Bohem.

When her husband shockingly dies while meditating on the Mindful app, Angela, deeply suspicious of the new wellness craze, uncovers supernatural forces that have fused with the technology. As the app’s popularity spreads like wildfire, she is forced to confront her own demons and dive into a terrifying out of body experience in order to save the ones she loves.

Blackshear’s indie horror They Look Like People is really effective and contains one of the scariest opening scenes in horror movie history, so any project he’s involved in should have horror fans excited. He said in a statement:

“I am delighted to be working with such a high caliber actress as Jenny, whose natural empathy will draw our audience inextricably into this terrifying tale, but also skewer with a straight face our collective obsession with technology and self-help culture.”

Slate is having a great time of it right now, having recently co-created, co-written, co-produced and voiced the titular character of Marcel in A24’s Oscar-nominated Marcel The Shell With Shoes On. She’s also a consistent voice actress on shows such as Bob’s Burgers, Big Mouth, and The Great North.

It will be interesting to see her lead a horror film, something she’s never done in her career. She’ll next be seen in Netflix’s The Electric State, the upcoming sci-fi blockbuster by Joe and Anthony Russo that will star Millie Bobby Brown and Chris Pratt.
