Rebecca Front And Peter Capaldi Reunite In ‘Doctor Who’ Season 9 | TV News

Upcoming ‘Dr Who’ autumn episode featuring the return of the Zygons will see the ‘The Thick of it’ reunite again.

After several years of being apart, BAFTA winning The Thick Of It partners Rebecca Front and Peter Capaldi will be reunited in the next series of Doctor Who. Front will guest star in an episode featuring the return of the Zygons, although, to some fans’ anguish, her specific role is being kept closely to the chest.

Jenna Coleman, who plays the Doctor’s companion, will also be reuniting with Front; the two worked together in BBC1 drama Death Comes to Pemberley. Also involved in Peter Harness’ two-part adventure are Jemma Redgrave and Ingrid Oliver who will both feature alongside Capaldi and Coleman.

Front has always been a huge Doctor Who fan and has been desperate for any role to be offered to her for a while now – her debut will take place this autumn when the next series starts. Previously voicing audio versions of the show, Front said that she would love to “play a Doctor Who monster or something. That’d be brilliant”. Front is following the footsteps of former The Thick Of It co-star Chris Addison, who appeared in last year’s series. Other guest stars confirmed for the next series include Maisie Williams, Michelle Gomez, Rufus Hound, Paul Kaye and Jaye Griffiths.

When Capaldi informed Front of receiving the role, she said last year she “sent him a really sweary text saying: ‘This is not fucking true? This cannot be true?’, and he just said, ‘Please, we’re not swearing any more’”. Commenting on Capaldi’s portrayal of the famous doctor, Front admitted Capaldi was “fantastic” in the role. “It was a very complex, grown up portrayal – I thought it was really interesting”.
