Black Mafia Family was announced almost a year ago as the ambitious new project from US rapper 50 Cent in collaboration with Starz and Lionsgate TV.
The series is based on the true life story of 1980s Detroit mafia family, the Felenory family, with a particular focus on brothers Demetrius aka ‘Big Meech’ and Terry aka ‘Southwest T’ Felenory.
To make sure we have enough drama, we also need a full cast of talents, and as such, 50 Cent has added LA rapper Snoop Dogg to play the family Pastor, Pastor Swift. He joins Big Meech’s real-life son, who has been cast in the series along with Russell Hornsby, Da’Vinchi, Michole Briana White and Ajoina Alexus.
To accompany Snoop Dogg and the first set of actors attached to the series, the cast now also includes La La Anthony, who will be playing Terry’s love interest Markaisha Taylor and Empire star Seraya, who will be playing Demetrius Felenory’s girlfriend, Lori Walker.
Black Mafia Family is executive produced by 50 Cent, with Randy Huggins serving as showrunner, while Tasha Smith has been attached to directing several episodes of the show.
We don’t have an official release date yet for the Starz series, but we’ll be sure to keep you posted as new announcements are made around the TV series.
