In support of the release of their Analogue Creatures Living On An Island album, out now, instrumental ambient drone duo, Immersion, have come forward with a video clip for the project’s track, “Fireflys”. Made up of Wire’s Colin Newman and Minimal Compact’s Malka Spigel, this latest effort is their first album in seventeen years.

“Fireflys” clocks over the six minute mark, opening shimmering and maybe a tad tragic. It predominantly has the same melodic base, just additional layers added upon it to create extra ambience. Synths and percussion are key, one the melody and the other for atmosphere. The closing minute sees the volume gradually drop, very relaxing and sedate.

Directed by Brighton based animator, Richard Jackson, the video begins with a sun rising above the ocean. This seems to meld into a Japanese flag. Tragedy of the kamikaze? This grows yet smaller, perhaps like moon dwarfed by sun. Birds take flight and the sun rarely seems to set, just rise. Does this convey some far off hope conveyed in the song’s melody?
