Universal Pictures has optioned the upcoming book, Bloodlines: The True Story of a Drug Cartel, the FBI, and the Battle for a Horse-Racing Dynasty by Melissa Del Bosque, and has tapped Channing Tatum to star, with Oscar nominated writer Jonathan Herman (Straight Outta Compton) signed on to adapt the book for the screen.
Tatum will play a rookie FBI agent assigned to the border town of Laredo, Texas where he merely writes reports about the ongoing drug war. Things change when he gets a tip regarding a house sold for a record price at an auction being bought by the leader of a ruthless drug cartel, and alongside a senior agent, sees an opportunity to infiltrate the gang that has been laundering money through American horse racing.
The book will be published Tuesday, September 12 for anyone looking to get their hands on the engrossing story before Tatum and co. adapt it. A director has not yet been signed on for the project.
Tatum has almost taken the Leonardo DiCaprio path to stardom, developing from pure adored heartthrob starring in films like Step Up and Dear John, before taking on a bevy on interesting, challenging projects like Magic Mike, Foxcatcher and The Hateful Eight. Judging by the synopsis, Bloodlines has every chance to be another captivating role.
