‘The Raid’ Director Gareth Evans In Talks To Helm ‘Deathstroke’ | Film News

Deathstroke may have finally found a home after a long period of indecision. After Joe Manganiello (Magic Mike) signed on to play the villainous assassin last September, there’s been plenty of moving parts within the DCEU to put the character’s future up in the air.

First, Joss Whedon replaced Zack Snyder in the director’s chair of Justice League, where Deathstroke may have been set for an appearance, while Matt Reeves replaced Ben Affleck as the director of The Batman where the character may have been the central antagonist. Even as recently as July, Manganiello told Collider he didn’t know exactly what was happening with the character.

Well fortunately, all seems well with Deathstroke. The Wrap reports that Warner Bros. want to give the character his own standalone movie, and are in talks with Gareth Evans (The Raid) to direct the film. How exactly the character will be introduced prior to that is unclear, as he’s likely not big enough to hold up a whole movie on his own without a prior introduction to audiences.

There’s still a chance the character turns up in Justice League, which would probably be preferable for all. It will be interesting to see if Evans signs on, as following both Raid films he got plenty of offers to direct blockbusters but turned them down. But this might be too big of an opportunity to pass on.

Until we know more, we do know that Evans’ next film is titled Apostle and is slated to arrive on Netflix sometime next year.
