Tom Hanks To Star In Sci-Fi Film ‘Bios’ From ‘Game Of Thrones’ Director | Film News

Tom Hanks is set to dip his toe into the sci-fi genre. Variety reports that he will star in Bios, which follows a robot that lives on a post-apocalyptic earth. Built to protect the life of his creator’s beloved dog, it learns about love, friendship and the meaning of life. Hanks will play the creator.

The spec script has been a hot property making the rounds in Hollywood recently, and comes from writers Craig Luck and Ivor Powell, while Robert Zemeckis is producing and Game Of Thrones director Miguel Sapochnick helming the project. Sapochnick is known for directing the fan favourite Thrones episode Battle Of The Bastards, which won him an Emmy award for Best Directing.

The film package began being shopped around earlier this month with Amblin the likely landing spot, though both Warner Bros. and Legendary are still in the mix. Once picked up, the plan is to begin shooting the film in the first quarter of 2018 when Hanks’ busy schedule frees up.

There’s probably Wall-E comparisons to be made here as the film sounds sweet and charming, especially with Hanks on board, though it’s hard to know what kind of tone the film will take considering the limited synopsis and with Sapochnick directing.

His only film directing credit to date is 2010’s Repo Men, which is a pretty violent sci-fi thriller. Bios will likely be a far different sci-fi experience to that one.
