Fresh off an Academy Award nomination for Best Original Screenplay for The Big Sick, Emily V. Gordon has now been hired to write the adaptation of the novel The Nest for Amazon‘s film studio.
Written by Cynthia D’Aprix Sweeney, The Nest is set in New York City where three siblings gather to confront their reckless older brother who has just been released from rehab after getting in a car accident with a 19-year-old waitress as his passenger. The accident has endangered the joint trust fund the siblings have, which they are months away from finally receiving.
The book has been a bit of a hit since its release in 2016, where it debuted at #3 on the New York Times bestseller list before rising to #2 the next week.
Gordon and her husband Kumail Nanjiani have received high praise and multiple nominations for their work on The Big Sick, which recounts their real-life relationship from a decade ago, and this is the first major opportunity either of them has gotten since that film.
The Nest will be produced by Jill Soloway and Andrea Sperling, and hopefully Gordon’s adaptation can match the critical praise the novel garnered.
