Babak Anvari‘s 2016 Persian-language horror film Under The Shadow is one of the most acclaimed horror films of the past half-decade, but unfortunately it’s also one of the most underseen. Hopefully with this recent news regarding his next film adding a couple of budding stars to its cast, his debut will eventually become a lot more widely seen and appreciated.
Anvari’s next film is currently an untitled thriller set up at Annapurna, and he’s just added Dakota Johnson and Zazie Beetz to the cast, joining the already-cast Armie Hammer.
Johnson now looks set to become a bit of a scream queen in the next year, as she’s also set to appear in the Suspiria remake this year, while Beetz herself is likely to break out soon with her role as Domino in Deadpool 2. Hammer has also had a great year with the huge success of Call Me By Your Name.
If Anvari was looking to add three actors whose stock will continue to rise in the next year, he couldn’t really have picked a better threesome.
Little is known about the untitled film right now, but this synopsis has surfaced: “A New Orleans bartender’s life starts to unravel as a series of disturbing and inexplicable events happen after he picks up a phone left behind at his bar”. It sounds intriguing, and if it’s anything close to Under The Shadow, we’re probably in for something special.
The film is currently scheduled to arrive March 29, 2019.
