Netflix Developing An Animated ‘Fast & Furious’ Series | TV News

Netflix are teaming up with DreamWorks Animation Television for an animated Fast & Furious series which will be executive produced by franchise mainstays Vin Diesel, Neal Moritz, and Chris Morgan.

The series will reportedly follow Dom’s cousin, a teenager named Tony Torretto, who seeks to follow in Dom’s footsteps when he and his friends are recruited by a government agency to infiltrate an elite racing league to help bring down a crime organisation hellbent on world domination.

It’s an interesting way to continue to build on the huge brand that Fast & Furious has become, and this project is the first series in an expansion of the ongoing multi-year deal for original animated programming between Netflix and DreamWorks Animation TV that offers a first-look at animated series based on Universal film properties.

This expansion builds on a successful relationship between the two companies that has seen fourteen original shows debut on the service. Tim Hedrick and Bret Haaland, showrunners on other DreamWorks shows, will serve as executive producers and showrunners for the Fast & Furious series.

It’s almost absurd to think how far the franchise has grown since the first two films released in the early 2000s were quickly dismissed without much thought. With this series now in the works, along with the Hobbs and Shaw spinoff and still two confirmed sequels to come, the Fast & Furious franchise shows no sign of slowing down.

There isn’t any word yet on when this series is expected to arrive, but the Hobbs and Shaw spinoff is slated to hit cinemas in July 2019, with the ninth and tenth films of the franchise scheduled for April 2020 and April 2021, respectively.
