Laura Dern is in talks to join Greta Gerwig‘s new adaptation of Louisa May Alcott‘s 1968 classic novel, Little Women, per THR.
With an outstanding cast already set up that includes Emma Stone, Meryl Streep, Timothée Chalamet, Eliza Scanlen and Saoirse Ronan, the addition of Dern would be a feather in the cap of a film that became highly anticipated the moment it was announced.
It’s unclear as of now who Dern would potentially be playing, but the story of Little Women follows sisters Amy, Jo, Beth, Meg and their mother in Civil War-era Massachusetts as they experience life’s highs and lows during a Christmas without their father.
In addition to directing the film, Gerwig will also be penning the screenplay, with Amy Pascal producing for Sony. The novel was adapted into a film back in 1994, starring Winona Ryder, Susan Sarandon, Christian Bale, and Kirsten Dunst, and directed by Gillian Armstrong. It went on to be nominated for three Academy Awards.
Adding Dern to the cast would obviously be an incredible addition and make an already-stacked cast even more packed. As the follow-up to Gerwig’s acclaimed Lady Bird, Little Women will be a film that will be tracked extensively right up until it hits cinemas on December 25, 2019.
