Natalie Portman will direct and star in an upcoming drama that will revolve around twin sisters Esther and Pauline Friedman, who were responsible for writing the long standing Dear Abby and Ann Landers advise columns. Portman will reportedly portray both siblings, who engaged in a heated professional rivalry for years, despite both of them leading fulfilling lives as individuals.

Katie Robbins, who currently serves as producer of Showtime’s drama The Affair, is penning the script, while Peter Saraf and Dani Melia of Big Beach are producing the film, which is currently untitled.

Portman already has one feature directorial effort under her belt; 2015’s A Tale Of Love And Darkness, which told the story of Amos Oz‘s youth, set against the backdrop of the end of the British Mandate for Palestine and the early years of the State of Israel.

This new film will be a departure from the themes of that project, but should be equally challenging, as playing two roles while directing an entire film is certainly going to be a bit of an ordeal.

In addition to this, Portman also has two highly anticipated films set to premiere at the ongoing Toronto International Film Festival: Xavier Dolan‘s The Life And Death Of John F. Donovan, and Brady Corbet‘s pop star drama Vox Lux.

Having already secured a critical hit earlier this year with Annihilation, Portman looks set to continue to stake her claim as one of the best contemporary actors plying her trade right now with an very exciting set of upcoming projects.
