Disney has released the first teaser trailer for director Jon Favreau‘s live-action remake/reimagining of The Lion King. Favreau was also the man behind the live-action Jungle Book reimagining, and this teaser has a similar feel to that, focusing on the incredibly rendered world and the new live-action versions of classic characters.
There is a somewhat surreal feeling to seeing glimpses of scenes we all know as animated play out in this live-action fashion, and from the clip above Favreau’s film looks more likely to be a slightly more serious emotional rollercoaster than the original 1994 film. Visually it looks stunning, but we’ll have to wait for the next trailer to get a better look at the specifics of the film.
Made using a mix of CGI and live-action, the film will feature an all star cast that includes Donald Glover, Seth Rogen, Beyonce Knowles-Carter, Chiwetel Ejiofor, John Oliver, and Billy Eichner.
The Lion King hits cinemas July 19, 2019, and expect it to destroy some box office records that weekend.
