Ariana Grande began her Sweetener World Tour last night in Albany, New York, honouring her late ex-boyfriend Mac Miller. The rapper died after accidentally overdosing on a mixture of cocaine, fentanyl and alcohol on September 7. Since then the singer continues to honor him however she can.
Indeed, this isn’t her first tribute to him. Grande didn’t attend the Grammys after having issues with the producers, but she did post photos of the blue gown Zac Posen made her for the ceremony. It had a deliberate Cinderella look, which may have been done in tribute to Miller. Grande revealed in last May that Miller wrote his song “Cinderella“ about her.

According to fans who were lucky enough to buy tickets for opening night of the tour, Ariana chose to play some of Mac’s music as everyone waited for her to take the stage. “Ariana Grande is playing Mac Miller right before her opening song for Sweetener tour rn and my heart can’t handle it SO MANY TEARS,” one fan tweeted.

Ariana Grande chose to open the concert with “Raindrops“, which talks about Mac Miller, with words like: “When raindrops fell down from the sky/The day you left me, an angel cried“. Check out the video below. It was a super emotional and heart-breaking moment of the entire night.

Last December, she covered up one of her many Pete Davidson (her most recent ex-boyfriend) tattoos. Inscribed “8418”, Davidson’s father’s FDNY badge number, it was a beautiful tribute considering his father died responding to the World Trade Center bombing on September 11, 2001.
She replaced it with the name of Mac’s dog Myron, who she started caring for after his death. Ariana debuted the tattoo during a behind-the-scenes glimpse at the “Thank U, Next” music video, showing her friends and saying “Look at my Myron. Guys, come look. How cool right?”
