Mark Hamill To Voice Chucky In ‘Child’s Play’ Reboot | Film News

Mark Hamill already has one malicious, evil villain under his voice acting resumé. Why not make it two? Hamill is now reportedly the new voice of murderous doll Chucky in MGM’s upcoming Child’s Play reboot.

The Star Wars legend confirmed the announcement himself over social media, stating: “I can’t wait to bring such an iconic character to life, and present him in a way you’ve never seen him before”.

Having received critical acclaim for voicing the Joker for years in various Batman incarnations, this announcement is very exciting. There were some concerns regarding the Child’s Play reboot, considering original creator Don Mancini is not on board (and is developing a separate Child’s Play series at Syfy), but this news proves that MGM is taking the reboot very seriously.

Despite having a large following, the Child’s Play series has been left to straight-to-DVD releases in recent years. The quality has surprisingly remained solid though. Hopefully this new version can capture the spirit of the original even without Mancini on board.

Despite Hamill’s immense talent, he will have some large shoes to fill. Original voice actor Brad Dourif did a legendary job with Chucky, and it will be interesting to hear Hamill’s take on the evil doll. He’s already excitedly joined in the cast by Aubrey Plaza and Brian Tyree Henry, and the film will be directed by Lars Klevberg.

The Child’s Play reboot hits cinemas Friday, June 21.
