‘Spider-Man’ Director Jon Watts To Helm ‘Methuselah’ With Michael B. Jordan | Film News

Spider-Man: Far From Home director Jon Watts has hopped on board Warner Bros.’ Methuselah. Michael B. Jordan set the project up a month ago, and will produce and star, with Deadline reporting that the duo plan to turn this tale into a franchise.

So, what is Methuselah? Well, it’s a project that’s been in development for some time. Tom Cruise‘s name was in the mix for the title role at one point. The film focuses on the biblical figure who has managed to stay alive for over 400 years, but this project would retool the character from, say, the version Anthony Hopkins played in Darren Aronofsky‘s 2014 film Noah.

WB want him to reportedly be more Highlander-esque, honing in on the idea that Methuselah has acquired a whole host of action-hero skills thanks to his many adventures across time. Does that sound almost comically bad and a little like a high budget God’s Not Dead-esque pro-Christian mess? Yes, but with Watts and Jordan on board, hopefully then can mould it into something worthwhile.

This is just the latest project Jordan has been developing; his Outlier Society banner signed a first-look deal with Warner Bros. in January. He’s developing a Detroit-set monster movie with Jordan Vogt-Roberts at the helm, as well as the anime series gen: LOCK. On screen, he’s signed on to star in Denzel Washington‘s A Journal For Jordan, and Ryan Coogler‘s Wrong Answer.

That isn’t including his starring roles in other potential franchise-starters such as The Silver Bear and the new Tom Clancy adaptation. So he’s got a lot on his plate. Methuselah doesn’t immediately jump out as the project with the most potential, but we’ll wait and see. Jordan is reportedly looking for a new writer to update the script. Beirut writer Tony Gilroy penned the latest draft.

Watts’ Spider-Man: Far From Home will be the first post-Endgame MCU release, and hits cinemas Friday, July 5.
