After serving up a fiery performance on Donatachi‘s lively new single “Do What I Want“, Australian songstress Evangeline provides an exciting performance of her own. With her first release of the year, she greets the year with lush new pop track “The Strangest Thing“.
From the surface “The Strangest Thing” feels like a joyfully warm treat. It’s uplifting, punching with rhythm and synths galore and it’s exotic dancefloor vibes are infectious. Evangeline’s raspy vocals are mesmerising and add depth to the track. But this beautiful song actually doubles as a personal tale of loss with a special someone, revealing an sad and emotional tale right to its core.
Evangeline explains: “I wrote ‘Strangest Thing’ towards the end of a break up. It’s a song about loving someone and feeling them fall out of love with you. When you’re left with the ghost of that person and you are begging them to just give you love.”
“It’s about coming to the realisation that they are not who they used to be. “It’s the strangest thing when you’re the stranger I used to know” the chorus is closure, the cycle of when someone who was once a stranger becomes your world and then they become a stranger again.”
