Royal Opera House has just launched the program for its 2019/2020 Season, revealing for the first time, a range of new productions, including six world premieres, celebrating their rich cultural heritage while embracing dynamic and contemporary new work as Director of The Royal Ballet Kevin O’Hare guarantees.
Since the Open-Up renovation of the Royal Opera House three years ago, the company has unveiled many innovatory new works with 13 new productions, including two world premieres. They are ready for a comeback with new materials, celebrating 24 exciting co-productions, co-commissions and partnerships for the season ahead, including new Handel and Britten productions.
Following on from the success of 2019’s Berenice, Oliver Mears will be introducing Barrie Kosky’s new production of Agrippina, as well as a new production of Susanna, to be performed in the West End’s newest and most intimate space, the Linbury Theatre. The company will also stage two new Britten masterpieces including his last opera Death in Venice and The Turn of the Screw.
The Royal Opera will also be showing operas designed specifically for family audiences, including Antony McDonald’s new production of Gerald Barry’s Alice’s Adventures Under Ground and an adaptation of Shaun Tan’s The Lost Thing world premiere directed by Ben Wright.
With almost 700,000 people visiting since September, more than a quarter of a million visiting during non-performance times and almost 28,000 of those participating in free and ticketed daytime events, the Royal Opera House is also extending its programme of activities, events and festivals for people of all ages in 2019/20.
