Adam Sandler‘s mega-deal with Netflix rolls on. His latest project will be Hubie Halloween, which is being described as a creepy comedy. Frequent collaborator Steven Brill will direct. The duo previously worked together on Little Nicky, Mr. Deeds, The Do-Over, and Sandy Wexler. Sandler has co-written the script with Tim Herlihy (The Wedding Singer).
The story thrust’s Sandler into a murder case on Halloween night in Salem, Massachusetts. He’ll play a deli worker named Hubie who is known as the town doofus, but is given his chance to redeem himself by saving Halloween.
This is actually the second recent Sandler project revolving around murder. He’ll soon be seen in the action-comedy Murder Mystery alongside his Just Go With It star Jennifer Aniston, which hits Netflix on Tuesday, 12 June. He’s also producing the David Spade-led film The Wrong Missy. All of these projects come under Sandler’s Happy Madison banner.
If you’re rolling your eyes at a genuinely talented actor like Sandler still settling for lame comedies, fear not. He’s also got the crime drama Uncut Gems from the Safdie brothers (Good Time) lined up. Esteemed studio A24 is producing, and there are rumours that Tyler, The Creator may be involved with the score.
Hubie Halloween doesn’t exactly sound like the next great comedy, but Sandler films consistently rank among the most watched on Netflix (according to them, anyway). So both parties are surely very happy with their deal. And it will most likely continue long into the future.
