Disney-Pixar Drops Teaser Trailer For ‘Onward’ | Film Trailer

Disney-Pixar have released the first teaser trailer for their latest original film, Onward. It will be the studio’s first non-sequel film for almost three years when it arrives next spring.

Monsters University director Dan Scanlon directs the film, which takes place in a suburban fantasy world occupied by gnomes, mermaids, centaurs and unicorns. Two teenage elf brothers embark on an extraordinary quest to discover if there is any magic left in the world. Scanlon has stated that the story is inspired by his own relationship with his brother.

The teaser above doesn’t give us much in terms of story, but does nicely introduce us to this world where magical creatures are just the norm. It’s also not clear what tone Onward will take on, but all that’s for a later trailer. Although multiple sequels have dropped the Pixar brand down slightly since, say, ten years ago when they could do no wrong, expectations will still be high for the film.

The cast is also exciting. The film stars Chris Pratt and Tom Holland as the central brothers, while Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Octavia Spencer are also on board. More of the voice cast is expected to be announced at a later date.

Now, much of this summer will be spent consuming Toy Story 4. However, Onward certainly has the potential to be Pixar’s next hit. Their last original film was Coco, which turned into one of their most acclaimed works. We’ll see if Onward can do the same when it hits cinemas March 6, 2020.
