‘Booksmart’ Duo Olivia Wilde & Katie Silberman Re-Team For Holiday Comedy | Film News

Having teamed up on the critically acclaimed Booksmart, director Olivia Wilde and writer Katie Silberman are collaborating on another comedy. Universal has won a heated bidding war for an untitled holiday comedy pitch from the duo; it’s an original idea that they will also produce. Universal executives Sara Scott and Lexi Barta will oversee the project.

Unfortunately, that’s pretty much all we know. Plot details are under wraps, but Wilde and Silberman re-teaming for another comedy is music to the ears of Booksmart fans. Silberman co-wrote the film alongside Emily Halpern, Sarah Haskins and Susanna Fogel, and the film grossed over $22 million from just a $6 million budget.

Despite the critical acclaim, some were disappointed it didn’t make more money, lamenting that a great film was not performing at the box office. This news – plus the reported bidding war – is proof that Booksmart still made a big impact on studios, and they’re still willing to invest in original films from creative minds (at least some of the time).

Silberman has become a hot name on the writing circuit, having also penned Netflix’s hit romcom, Set It Up and Isn’t It Romantic. Wilde hasn’t directed any other films yet, but recently starred in the indie thriller A Vigilante, and is currently filming Clint Eastwood‘s drama, The Ballad Of Richard Jewell.

We’ll now wait for more news regarding this Booksmart follow-up. If the duo can create another film even close to the hilarious, heartfelt brilliance of that, audiences will be very happy.
