Mark Wahlberg already has a deep film history with one animal in the form of Ted, the animated bear he co-starred with in two Seth McFarlane comedies. He’s done with bears though; dogs are his new favourite, as he’s signed on to star alongside one in the adaptation of Arthur The King.
Paramount Players are producing the film, based on the true story detailed in Mikael Lindnord‘s book, Arthur: The Dog Who Crossed the Jungle to Find a Home. Michael Brandt (3:10 To Yuma) is penning the screenplay.
The book and film follow the real-life story of Lindnord, a Swedish adventure racer who won the hearts of millions when he and his team adopted Arthur, a badly wounded but big-hearted stray dog who tagged along with them during an epic endurance race in Ecuador.
Mark Canton, Tucker Tooley, Courtney Solomon and Tessa Tooley are producing for Paramount. It’s no surprise that the studio is keen to work with Wahlberg again. They previously collaborated on two Daddy’s Home movies, both of which grossed healthy profits.
No director is currently attached for Arthur The King, but one assumes many dog-loving filmmakers will be keen to jump on board.
Wahlberg will next be seen starring in Netflix’s Wonderland, a mystery film directed by frequent collaborator Peter Perg and written by Sean O’Keefe. That is also a book adaptation, based on the novel by Ace Atkins. Wahlberg also recently wrapped shooting on the indie drama, Good Joe Bell.
