Musician and conductor Ezio Bosso, while conducting his Philharmonic Orchestra of Europe at a theatre in Foggia, Italy, has confirmed that he’s no longer able to play the piano, due to a neurodegenerative illness, from which he has suffered since 2011.
Although Bosso has talked about his inability for two years, this is the first time that he has asked fans to stop begging him to play the piano as two of his fingers “no longer respond well”. “If you love me, please don’t ask me to play anymore”, he said at an exhibition centre in Bari, “You do not know the suffering it causes me… I have two fingers that no longer respond well and so I can’t give as much to the music”.
Ezio Bosso definitely became famous throughout Italy three years ago, thanks to his appearance and piano performance at the Sanremo festival, the most important music TV show in Italy, with millions of viewers across the country. His performance moved the audience, as, despite the illness, his crystalline talent powerfully came out.
The news has shocked his fans, but Bosso has confirmed that he will continue to work as composer and conductor: “I already announced this two years ago… but I didn’t retire, I continue to make music, and better than before! I am very happy with what I do, but it pains me when you insist on the piano as I struggle a lot, because I don’t have the same quality”.
