In an official statement on Tuesday, Amazon Studios declared they have chosen New Zealand as the location for the television adaptation of Lord Of The Rings trilogy.
The firm also announced they begin to shoot in Auckland in the coming months, having completed pre-production in the country
“As we searched for the location in which we could bring to life the primordial beauty of the Second Age of Middle-earth, we knew we needed to find somewhere majestic, with pristine coasts, forests, and mountains“, the Amazon Studios said.
However, earlier this year, Scotland was in negotiation with the firm for the TV series to be filmed there, but due to Brexit, the studio changed its mind on Scotland. Finally, all of this seems logical because it means a return to the original location of the iconic trilogy.
About the TV series, we know that the new adaptation will explode fresh storylines preceding J.R.R Tolkien’s classic The Fellowship of The Ring.
Also the first two episodes are directed by J.A Bayonne who worked on Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, and it is produced by Amazon Studios in cooperation with Tolkien Estate and Trust, HarperCollins, and New Line.
This production is the most expensive made, at a cost of £801 million. But with the huge success of the Lord Of The Rings film trilogy, it seems to be a safe investment.
The cast has not yet been confirmed but the TV series is expected to be released in 2021.
